More Suspensions on the Weekend

On Sunday afternoon, the NHL came down, albeit lightly, on Sabres forward Brad Boyes, who was suspended for two games following a head hit in a preseason game this weekend.  Boyes hit Leafs forward Joe Colborne on Saturday night and quickly, the NHL banned Boyes for the next couple of preseason games, but he'll be able to go again when the Sabres take to the ice in Europe.

This suspension will have no bearing on his regular season performance or projections.

On Friday night, the Blue Jackets and the Wild had a nasty affair, where we have two incidents that have been deemed suspension worthy. James Wisniewski has been suspended, pending a hearing on Monday, for an illegal check to the head of Cal Clutterbuck. Wisniewski will likely miss the remainder of the preseason and will likely see some games on the shelf when the regular season opens.

The Wild's Brad Staubitz will also have a hearing on Monday for a checking from behind major penalty and game misconduct play on Friday night, which seemed to have set a lot of the nastiness off.  I would expect that Staubitz's suspension will likely be worse than Wisniewski's, but Staubitz is not a pool-worthy forward, so for draft purposes, this suspension is somewhat moot.
