The Sabres had another set of demotions to announce on Monday, as both forward Ales Kotalik and defenseman Shaone Morrisonn cleared waivers and were then assigned to Rochester of the AHL. Both players were not exactly expected to make the cut when training camps started, as they were easy cuts to make to a team that is working as close to the salary cap ceiling as possible.
This move sends $5 million in cap space down to the minors today, helping the team's overall cause. They shouldn't have been considered as players to be taken for your hockey pool team, but this move now cements that thinking.
This move now opens a spot for Marc-Andre Gragnani on the blueline, one which the team must be getting excited about, because I think I'll have him on my radar for some of the later rounds.
