In terms of hockey pool points, last night's exit for Roberto Luongo was a bit of a kick in the pants, as he gave up the tying goal in the dying minutes of the 3rd period against the San Jose Sharks, but could not continue in the game, leaving James Reimer to tend to the net, as the Florida Panthers won the game, 6-5, in overtime and Reimer's 2-minute appearance earned him the win and the 2 points in the pool. Luongo was said to have left with some cramping and it isn't a serious injury, so it seemed hardly worth losing the 2 points to some muscle cramps.
This was Cam's loss and Eric's gain in the standings. Cam has one of four teams in the pool, vying for the Basement Dweller this week with only 1 point through three nights. Of course, this is definitely coming at a bad time for Cam's team, as it has dropped down to 8th place and is already 11 points back of the money. He needs some good luck and fast!
Toronto Maple Leafs rookie forward Mitch Marner left Wednesday night's game against the Columbus Blue Jackets with an apparent upper-body injury, likely related to his shoulder. The team, nor the player, gave an update after the game and will probably be evaluated today, ahead of this weekend's action, which begins Saturday against Ottawa at home and then Sunday night in Carolina.
The pool's second-best rookie would be a pretty big loss to Dale B.'s bid for 1st place, which he had lost a little bit of ground on last night, as the gap extended back to 6 points after Wednesday night's action. Marner has 15 goals and 48 points in 56 games, trailing only Matt Murray of the Pittsburgh Penguins for the rookie points title.
