The start by Antti Raanta was definitely fruitful for Stacey M., because not only was it a win to qualify for Week Twenty-Three (or the mini-game win), it was also a shutout, which made for a nice 4-spot on the standings.
Now, we begin Swanny Watch: Week Twenty Two. And it begins with one possible start tonight... does he get it?
Jake Allen (Mike) versus Devan Dubnyk (John S.)
It's a clutch Central Division clash, as the division-leading Wild are taking on the Blues, who occupy the last wild card spot in the West, trying to fend off the Kings. Not only that, it is a survival game, as John's number one will get the nod tonight against Mike's potential spoiler goalie. This should be the headlining game of the night, that's for sure!
Thomas Greiss (Dale B.) versus Cam Talbot (Marcie)
But if there was a headlining game in the hockey pool tonight, it would be up at Rexall Place, where the 2nd place team's goalie takes on the 3rd place team's goalie, when the Islanders visit the Oilers. Dale made up some ground on 1st place on Monday night, while Marcie lost a point to a few of the teams chasing hers, but an Edmonton win tonight could really take down the 15-point gap between the two teams playing in this one.
Petr Mrazek (Stacey C.) versus Frederik Andersen (Brian)
The top team in the pool gets another start from their number one goalie in Andersen, as the Maple Leafs host the Red Wings. Stacey's team fell well back in the money race last week, as his team now sits in 8th place, 16 points out, but a big week can start tonight, with Mrazek in the visitors net at the ACC.
Henrik Lundqvist (Grant) versus James Reimer (Eric)
The money racing teams all managed to keep the pace on Monday night, so there wasn't many gains or losses, so Eric starts Tuesday night 6 points out of 3rd place and he gets a start from Reimer in Florida with the traveling Rangers in town, working on back-to-back nights. Saying that, they'll go back to their number one, with their back-up earning the shutout last night.
Steve Mason (Brenda & Seward) versus Robin Lehner (Dropped)
The pool's second duo are only a couple points back of Eric's team for 6th place and are still in the money race in the latter weeks of the season. They get a start from Mason in Buffalo tonight, when the Flyers take on the Sabres. The Flyers still have some thoughts on making the playoffs this season and a win in Buffalo could certainly aid them in that fight.
Carey Price (Benson) versus Ryan Miller (Brenda & Seward)
Brenda & Seward get a second start in one of the late games tonight, when the Habs make their annual trip to Vancouver tonight. It will be a battle of number ones tonight, Price versus Miller, both teams running winning streaks, no matter how long or short they are. Should be a good game, regardless.
Pekka Rinne (Stacey M.) versus Jonathan Bernier (Eric)
Eric also gets another start tonight from the Ducks and I'm sure Stacey won't mind if her goalie was to take a night off, just to make the overall standings a little more interesting at the end of the night. I'm kidding, her team probably still wants the win from Rinne. The Ducks will be in the 3rd jerseys tonight, which are hard to miss in their signature orange.
