Afternoon Player Notes in the Draft (Dec 22)
The cramping that forced Ryan Miller from Sunday night's game in Sunrise will now keep him from dressing as Jacob Markstrom's back-up tonight in Tampa Bay. The team insists that the problem isn't major, but there is no reason to push the subject much further. The team has opted to call up Joe Cannata to do the back-up duties, which will make Miller day-to-day for the time being.
Goaltending has definitely been an issue on Clayton's team this year, as it continues to freefall in the standings, now down to 19th after only 1 point on Monday night. If Santa can send him a healthy team for Christmas, that'd be good too.
The early afternoon brought us updates in Ottawa, as the Senators are expected to be without both forward Bobby Ryan and defenseman Cody Ceci for tonight's showdown against the Panthers. Ryan reportedly aggravated a previous hand injury, while Ceci suffered an upper-body injury against the Lightning on the weekend, so they'll both sit tonight and be listed as out day-to-day for right now. With the break coming up, that's probably all we're going to get for the moment.
2nd place Troy will miss out on a skater game from Ryan, who has been decent for his side this year, while Scott, who sits in 11th, may not be able to climb into the top 10 without his young defender. It's a tough way to finish up before the break, but the Senators will have to plough through it.
