Goalie Announcements (Dec 21)

Welcome to Week Twelve of the season and this is one of the interesting weeks for the goalie survivor pool, as we're now down to four teams.  The Christmas Break, along with the All-Star Break, are big speed bumps in the process, breaks that could catch some teams by surprise.

Monday night will see eight games on the schedule and there are only two possibilities for survivor pool starts tonight, leaving one more night before the break to help out some causes.

The first being Jeremy's possible start for Braden Holtby, as the Washington Capitals are in Carolina to take on the Hurricanes.  Holtby had the start last night for the Capitals, while Cam Ward (Troy), playing opposite, had a night off, which will make this match-up very interesting.

If Holtby either doesn't start or loses tonight, he'll at least get one more chance, home to Montreal on Saturday.

The other survivor pool opportunity tonight goes to Allan, who sees the Winnipeg Jets going tonight against the Edmonton Oilers.  He could get a start from Connor Hellebuyck tonight, but if he doesn't start tonight, there is a chance he gets Tuesday night in Calgary.  Tonight, it is expected that Cam Talbot (Brian) goes for the Oilers at home.

The Jets will have a third game this week, Sunday, at home to the Penguins and I would have to think that the goalie that performs most admirably before the break, earns the start against Pittsburgh.

Derek W. starts the week in 8th place in the standings, 21 points out of the money, but he'll have two goalies going again tonight, as he'll have both Steve Mason going for the Flyers and Devan Dubnyk going for the Wild.  His team could really use a handful of points from his keepers this week, instead of leaving him a lump of coal before the break.

No other team is set to have two goalies going on Monday night, while there are still games where no pool goalies are starting.  Thanks to the injury concerns, it will be Joonas Korpisalo for the Blue Jackets, taking on Matthew Murray of the Penguins in Pittsburgh tonight, an all-non-pool goalie game.  How boring!
