Devils' Schneider Out With Knee Sprain

Well, if the New Jersey Devils had much hope of still pushing for a playoff spot, now 6 points back of Detroit in the wild card, they will have to put a whole bunch of faith into their make-shift goaltending tandem, as they will now be without Cory Schneider for about two weeks, thanks to a Grade 1 MCL sprain.

Schneider was having a pretty decent year, despite his Devils not holding a playoff spot, because he plays so much in the year, it's bound to add up.  To this point in the year, he has made 55 appearances in the Devils' net, winning 26 games and earning 4 shutouts for 60 points this year, good enough for 24th overall in pool scoring, a late 1st round pick today.

Two weeks away from the net will certainly hurt his numbers, but he has left no doubt that his skill is among the best in the league and that was one of the main reasons he was named to USA's World Cup initial 16 last week.

More importantly, in the pool, Troy is now without a goalie on his active roster and his team's drop in the standings is likely going to continue.  His team has fallen from 3rd place in Week Eleven to starting Week Twenty-Three in 18th, thanks to a ridiculous amount of injuries and no way to make up for them.  The nature of the beast can be exceptionally cruel.
