Noon Player Notes in the Draft (Mar 2)
We'll start near the top of the standings with the news, as Ottawa Senators goalie Craig Anderson was forced to leave Tuesday night's game against the Blues with a lower-body injury. Initially, after the game, the coaching staff suggested that the veteran keeper tweaked something down there, but there wasn't a great deal of updates. On Wednesday morning, the team recalled Chris Driedger to take his spot and said that the injury is likely not as bad as initially thought and should be day-to-day for right now. We'll keep everyone updated, as we find things out.
This could be earth-shaking news to the money race, as John P., currently in 3rd place and losing grip, may have a big hole to worry about, if Anderson is out for any significant length of time. The Ottawa goalie is his best player this year, accounting for 12.7% of his total points and may miss out on a great deal of starts.
The New York Islanders had a scheduled start for Thomas Greiss, playing against the Canucks on Tuesday night and since they are carrying three goalies on their roster at the moment, it gave the team a way to give Jaroslav Halak a proper night off, scratching him for J-F Berube to sit on the bench as the back-up. This could be a regular occurrence for the Islanders, as they sit in a playoff spot and try to conserve energy for their number one goalie.
On the plus side, this isn't a missed start for Dale B., as his team scratches and claws to stay around the top half of the standings. Dale's team finished in the dead centre of the standings after Tuesday night, ranking 14th, now 45 points out of the money.
Also in that game between the Canucks/Islanders, Vancouver was without forward Jannik Hansen, not on their top line because of an undisclosed injury. After the game, it was disclosed that the injury could be in the rib area and that he could miss upwards of about a week, but he'll remain on the list as out day-to-day for right now.
Brian has one of those teams chasing down John P. for 3rd place in the standings and Hansen was one of his Waiver Draft pick-ups this year, having picked up 16 points in 29 games since being activated.
