Devils Place Vatanen on the IR

Crashing into the end boards in the 1st period against the Flyers, leaving the game with a lower-body injury and not to return, has now set New Jersey Devils defenseman Sami Vatanen on the Injured Reserve, which will cost him at least a week's worth of action.

Vatanen was not able to participate in practice or any other on-ice activities and the team announced before their game on Saturday, that they had placed the scoring defender on the IR and recalled Eric Gryba to fill his roster spot.  There was no word on a definite timetable for his return though.

The 27-year old has 1 goal and 7 points in 17 games this season, ranking him 333rd overall in pool scoring, down from most projections that were out there for him, but the team, as a whole, is certainly down on their projections across the board.

Troy's team has been ticking right along regaining 1st place over the weekend, so far, and his team carries a 3-point lead into Sunday's action, with a handful of games in his back pocket as well.  This is the second significant injury on his page, however, already without Vegas forward Erik Haula until the Waiver Draft, in all likelihood.
