Goalie Announcements (Nov 19)

Week Eight starts with a busy Monday, as we will take this week to decide who picks where in the Waiver Draft, which starts a week from today.

Nine games on the schedule and if you read this morning's Newsletter, you'd know we're down to our final five teams in the goalie survival game and we'll have a number of those starts highlighted tonight, by the look of things.

Also important, the race for the money is hot, hot, hot!  The top five teams are separated by 6 points and the competition there will also heat up with a number of starts tonight too.

Without any further adieu, let's see who is getting the call!

Sergei Bobrovsky (Kristy & Don) versus Frederik Andersen (Derek B.)
Good goalie match-up in Toronto tonight, when the Blue Jackets take on the Maple Leafs.  The top ranked goalie, Andersen, takes on the 18th ranked goalie in Bobrovsky, the two goalies remarkably separated by 11 points at the start of play on Monday night.  A bit of a different story in the overall standings, with the duo 42 points ahead of Derek today.

Anton Khudobin (N/A) versus Henrik Lundqvist (Scott)
The Dallas Stars are on back-to-back nights with a stop in New York to take on the Rangers, so they'll be auditioning their backup goalie for your Waiver Draft needs tonight, while Scott is looking for more out of his best player, so far this season, Henrik Lundqvist.  The Rangers are hanging around the Eastern Conference playoff picture and their long-time netminder is a big reason why.

Carter Hutton (Wes) versus Casey DeSmith (N/A)
We have another goalie auditioning for a spot in the hockey pool, as Casey DeSmith gets another shake in the Pittsburgh crease tonight, when they take on the Buffalo Sabres.  Two teams going in the opposite directions in the standings and Carter Hutton has done well for Wes, so far, keeping him in the goalie survival game and looking to do much of the same again tonight.

Pheonix Copley (N/A) versus Carey Price (Stacey M.)
It's no wonder the participation numbers are slipping from the crease, there are a lot of unpicked goalies getting starts lately.  Washington does say that Braden Holtby is healthy, but Pheonix Copley will get another start tonight in Montreal, taking on Stacey M.'s number one guy, Carey Price.  Stacey's team is still in the mix for the survival game and Montreal has been playing well, it could be a good night for her again.

James Reimer (Dale C.) versus Craig Anderson (Mike)
Mike gets another start out of Craig Anderson and the Senators tonight, when they play host to James Reimer and the Panthers.  Mike's start here makes three out of five teams in the survival game with a start tonight.  Dale hasn't seen enough time out of Reimer in recent weeks, so he'll take what he can get, but really needs these 2 points to start tightening up the standings from the bottom.

Cal Petersen (N/A) versus Jake Allen (Steve)
The Kings will give Cal Petersen his third straight start in net tonight, making a case for your hockey pool selection, when they go into St. Louis to take on Jake Allen and the Blues.  Steve's team is very much more interested in the 2 points for the overall standings, hanging in the top 10 makes you crave for better spots, but his team is 15 points behind 3rd place, so there is some work to do.

Louis Domingue (N/A) versus Pekka Rinne (John P.)
John is staying in the money hunt, thanks to the 10th ranked goalie, Pekka Rinne and the Predators, and they'll get the Tampa Bay Lightning tonight at home, a good time to have them visit, with their number one on the shelf.  There might be more than one hockey pool team licking their chops about the possibility of getting goalie that will get the minutes in Tampa for the next extended stretch.

Malcolm Subban (Eric) versus David Rittich (Ryan)
The Golden Knights are on back-to-back nights in Alberta, taking on the Flames in the second half.  It's a pair of backups or maybe a backup and soon-to-be anointed number one.  Subban should be getting the nod for the second half, in all likelihood, not confirmed at the time of posting, but seems very likely, while Rittich has been confirmed for the Flames and this might start a stretch of starts, if things go well tonight.  These two pool teams sit 17th and 14th, 6 points away from each other, this is a bit of a swing game in the trash talk department.

Connor Hellebuyck (Jeremy) versus Jacob Markstrom (Chelsea)
Jeremy also gets a nod tonight for the survival game, getting a start from Connor Hellebuyck and the Jets, taking on the Canucks in Vancouver tonight.  Chelsea didn't get the start she needed on Sunday, as the Islanders turned around and kiboshed that idea, so now her team is on the outside looking in on survival and is now just playing for points with Jacob Markstrom tonight.
