Facial Fractures Sideline Fowler

On Monday night, Anaheim Ducks defenseman Cam Fowler took a puck up in the face against the Nashville Predators and after plenty of testing on Tuesday and Wednesday, the news came down last night that the defender suffered some severe facial fractures to his orbital bone, cheekbone and jaw.  Fowler is scheduled to go under the knife on Friday and is now expected to be out long-term.  The time table for his return will likely be confirmed after the surgery is completed.

Fowler has had some flashes of brilliance this season, including a hat-trick, but he leaves the active roster with those 3 goals and 10 points in 20 games played, which is good for 183rd overall in pool scoring, after Wednesday night's action, 20th among all defensemen.

Chelsea's defense has been decent, thanks to the early season successes from guys like Fowler, as her team ranks tied for 9th in defensemen scoring with 32 points thus far, but losing out on Fowler through to the end of the Waiver Draft may leave a pretty good hole for points and it will be up to her to decide whether or not there is anyone worth taking in the player swap in a couple of weeks to help boost her blueline after this injury.  Her team sits 21st after Wednesday night, so it's tracking for a decent opening round pick, if things were to stay the same.
