We had a trade today and it was actually pool related as well!

Both the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Los Angeles Kings have been rummaging around in the rumour mill for the last few weeks, the Penguins just wanting that extra push and the Kings needing to get their asses in gear.  Both teams came together to make a fairly straight swap, with a little money held back for cap purposes, and hoping to give both players a much-needed shot in the arm.

The Penguins get the struggling Tanner Pearson in their half of the deal, who, as you can see above, has had a hard time finding the scoresheet at all this season.  The last couple of seasons, he's been in the 40-point range, but with only a single point to date and the Kings struggling as a team overall, something really needed to happen.  For him, that's a pretty good upgrade, heading to a recent Cup champion team, which has all kinds of talent that he could line up with.

Pearson is also the pool representation in this deal, belonging to Jeremy's 15th place team, also in need of a bit of a shot in the arm.  Jeremy took Pearson with his 12th pick, which isn't bad for a guy that should be on pace for 40 points, but he just hasn't seen the production, but maybe this change of scenery may help.

Going in the other direction is Carl Hagelin, the speedy utility forward, who also isn't off to the best of starts this season and could be doing much better.  It's hard to say whether or not he'll be the cure to what ails the Kings, but the shake up should give the team an immediate boost, even if it that boost stems from fear.  Hagelin registered 31 points last season and will come with a little bit of his cap money staying behind.

So, my salary cap numbers are not going to be exact, when it comes to what each player is going to cost his team and the retained salary was only to really level out the numbers on both sides.  Both the Penguins and the Kings have been in cap troubles all year long, dipping into Long-Term Injured Reserve help, so it's really only a guide.  If you want something a little more definitive, try out CapFriendly.com.
