Flyers Goaltending Woes Continue
On Monday morning, the Philadelphia Flyers called up goaltender Alex Lyon from the AHL and he'll back-up Calvin Pickard tonight against the Coyotes, as both of the top two goalies for the Flyers are now hurt.
In order to get Lyon on the roster, the Flyers had to place Michal Neuvirth on the Injured Reserve, retroactive to October 30th, yet we still don't exactly know what his injury is at the moment. He will be eligible to come off on Tuesday, but that doesn't help the Flyers tonight on the ice, except with opening up a roster spot.
The Flyers' regular number one, Brian Elliott, suffered an injury of his own on Sunday at practice, when teammate Travis Konecny reportedly collided with him and it sounds like it could be an upper-body/head injury here too, which could mean a trip to the Injured Reserve before too long. There is no official timetable on his return, which doesn't bode well for the team.
Neuvirth only appeared in one game this season, having injury troubles right from the start of the season, but didn't register any points in that game. Elliott has appeared in 10 games for the Flyers, picking up 4 wins and 9 points in the process, ranking 156th overall in hockey pool scoring. Neither Grant or Jeremy have to be too thrilled by their attachment to the Flyers goaltending system, but there does always seem to be a risk when taking Flyers goalies in the hockey pool draft.
