Rangers Lose Buchnevich to Broken Thumb

The New York Rangers announced some bad news on Monday morning, as they are now expected to be without forward Pavel Buchnevich for the next 4-to-6 weeks after he broke his thumb against Columbus this weekend.

The 23-year old has been a productive member of the Rangers this season, scoring 5 goals and 9 points in his first 14 games this season, despite a couple of trips up to the press box as a healthy scratch this year.  His numbers have him ranked 190th overall in pool scoring, but the team has had to stay on top of him to get those numbers.

Unfortunately, six weeks on the shelf will certainly decimate his rankings for the next stretch and his value will take a serious hit.  Steve picked him with the 163rd overall pick in the 7th round and has seen some good ups with Buchnevich, possibly to the point where he could have found his way to his draft spot in the rankings (or better), but now disappointment will set in, due to the injury.

Steve's team will open play in Week Seven in 6th place, 5 points back of 3rd, and now down a significant forward.  A few position drops in the next couple of weeks could help Steve though, when the Waiver Draft rolls around, helping to get a better pick than the teams he is chasing.
