Another name has been added to the waived list, Shawn Bates. Friday morning, the Islanders announced their intentions to buy out Bates' last remaining year on his contract, which is valued at $1.2 million against the cap. Bates, 33, was drafted by Boston in 1993 and signed on Long Island in 2001. He'll be an unrestricted free agent come July 1st.
This past season, he only managed to play in 2 games, where he didn't manage a point. His career-high in points came in his first season on the island, where he managed 52 points in 71 games. His numbers have since dwindled since then and he may not be considered a good candidate for many pool teams anymore.
