Trading Rights Back and Forth

On Tuesday, the Flyers and Predators conducted a small deal, which included a pair of restricted free agents-to-be going either way and a pick. The Flyers acquired the rights to defenseman Janne Niskala, who had signed on to play in Europe a couple of weeks ago. In return, the Predators received forward Triston Grant and a seventh round pick next summer.

Niskala is a high-rated prospect who couldn't seem to crack the deep talent pool of the Predators' blueline, but may end up taking a job or two away in Philadelphia, if he so decides to come back to North America. He finished 2nd among defensemen in the AHL in goals in only his first North American pro season.

Grant has the reputation of being a goon in his years in the AHL and could conduct some key physical business for Nashville, after they had dealt away Darcy Hordichuk, but he would have to knock someone out of the already tight line-up there for the Predators.
