Horrible timing for the Oilers is pretty much par for the course this season. Just as the trade pipelines heat up with deals and more scuttlebutt, the most interesting piece to possibly come out of the Oilers selling situation, Sheldon Souray, goes and fights Jarome Iginla on Saturday night and ends breaking his hand. Word on Monday was that Souray had to undergo surgery to repair his broken hand and he'll now be out of the line-up indefinitely. In terms of time missed, a broken hand is generally six weeks away from the game, but he'll have the benefit of the Olympic Break, which might work to his favour.
Leading up to this injury, Souray has not had a very good season, dealing with other injuries and staying out of the line-up for extended periods of time. He's only managed to play in 38 games this season, so his scoring totals are really down. He's only got 4 goals and 9 assists this year, taking his ranking down a few notches.
Souray has been linked to many trade rumours already in 2010, which really started to gain momentum when it was made public that he submitted a list of teams that he would waive his No-Trade Clause for, but this injury does put a damper on things at the moment. If he is to miss six weeks worth of hockey action, the two-week break for the Olympics should keep his games missed total down a bit, leaving enough weeks to make an impact with a new team, but teams may go into low-ball the Oilers for his services, which might lead Edmonton to hang on to the veteran defender.
Allan, who sits in 9th place in the standings of the Draft, hasn't had much work out of Souray this year and that trend will continue for the better part of the remainder. Allan has been looking to jump into the money conversation and would need everyone to be healthy to do so. He is only 30 points out of 3rd place, which isn't out of the question after a few excellent weeks, but Souray needs to be there.
On the Sheet, Souray is not a popular player and rightfully so. No selections for him this season.
