As if Montreal didn't have enough injury problems to think about, they have just added another long-term problem to their situation. Marc-Andre Bergeron has been put on the shelf with a major knee injury and is expected to be there for the next 6-to-8 weeks. Bergeron was actually hurt in Thursday's game last week and missed out on the weekend's action, somewhat under the radar on me, and now the team has formally announced how much time he is going to miss.
Bergeron has 10 goals and 18 assists this season with the Habs, in 51 games. He was a late addition to the team, signed after Andrei Markov went down with his major injury at the beginning of the year. Bergeron did well to fill that void left behind, but he'll now leave a void of his own, as he's been a staple on the Habs power play all year.
He should be able to pick up some games before the playoffs, thanks to the Olympic Break, but it might not be much, as there is only eight weeks after this Sunday left in the regular season. It will be close, but if the Habs can make it to the playoffs, there is a good chance he could be good to go for the first round.
Well, this doesn't look to be Peter's day on the injury-front, eh? First, it was Sam Gagner (see below) and now its Marc-Andre Bergeron, both with knee injuries. Bergeron's is already diagnosed as being one of the worst-case scenarios, so his desire to climb up the standings will now have to be put on hold for another season.
