The Montreal Canadiens have been dealt a huge blow, already losing Brandon Prust to an upper-body injury, but they have also lost one of their biggest off-season pick-ups in Daniel Briere, as he was hit high and suffered a concussion.
The biggest concern for Briere is that this is now his third concussion in the last couple of years and it will be interesting to see how the team will handle this injury and how the player will bounce back from something this serious.
As of right now, Briere will be listed as out indefinitely with the concussion, which will have at least one week off, due to the NHL concussion protocol, and then he will be re-evaluated after the fact, to see when he will be able to return to the line-up.
Briere hasn't exactly paid off in the early part of the season, like the Habs probably hoped that he would, scoring only 1 goal and 2 assists in the first eight games of the season and there is now a chance that this output is all they'll get.
It has been a nightmare start for John S., who hasn't found much scoring in his pool line-up in the first three weeks of the season, sitting dead last in the standings and is already 12 points out of 23rd. The loss of Briere is devastating, as John is already without Vincent Lecavalier to injury and Tyler Toffoli to not making it out of training camp and being in the minors. If Briere is out for the long-term, this could sink John's first segment and possibly his whole season.
