We're now down to five teams without goalie points, as J-S Giguere and the Avalanche shut out the Bruins, 2-0, on Thursday night, which takes Clayton off the list of teams without goalie points. His other goalie, Jacob Markstrom, was shelled for six goals against the Tampa Bay Lightning, but he only needed one goalie to work for him.
Stacey C. had a pair of goalies going on Thursday night, but both Braden Holtby and Devan Dubnyk took losses, as the Capitals lost to the Hurricanes, 3-2, and the Oilers dropped a 4-1 decision to the Canadiens.
Also having a goalie playing last night was Tony, who had Ryan Miller in against the Blue Jackets, but Columbus got the best of him, winning 4-1.
With the goalie win, amongst other points, Clayton jumped up from 20th place, up to 8th and right in the mix for the money, if the pool were to end soon.
Where does this leave the race heading into Friday? Tony is still the highest ranked team without goalie points, sitting in 13th place and his goalies have logged 177 minutes of ice-time thus far, almost 100 minutes below the pool average of 272. Cindy is next up on the list, sitting in 18th place, with only 59 minutes played. Stacey C. is in 19th, with above average minutes at 338 and still no wins. John sits in 22nd and Stuart is in 24th, with 194 & 120 minutes played, respectively.
Six games on tap in the NHL tonight... not a busy night, by any means, but maybe we'll be able to strike off another name from the list.
Phoenix @ Philadelphia... Cindy has Ray Emery in this game, but the Instagram announcement shows that Steve Mason is going to be the starting goalie in this one tonight. Tough break for Cindy.
Los Angeles @ Carolina... no goalies of note here.
Pittsburgh @ Florida... nor here.
Long Island @ Chicago... not here either.
Dallas @ Winnipeg... Cindy also carries the regular back-up for the Dallas Stars, Dan Ellis, and since the Stars haven't played since the weekend, it seems like a pretty good bet that Kari Lehtonen will be getting the nod tonight against a new division rival.
New Jersey @ Calgary... John has two goalies in this game, Martin Brodeur for the Devils and Kari Ramo for the Flames, but only one of them is scheduled to get the start tonight and it would be the visiting goalie. Joey MacDonald is scheduled to go again for the Flames, so John has a 50/50 shot at getting out of the hole tonight.
It looks like John has the only legitimate shot of being taken off the list tonight, but with a little bit of luck, Cindy could potentially be off the list, but that would likely mean some bad luck for another team, since it would likely involve an injury or a really early deficit.
