With the Flyers struggling out of the gates in this 2014 season, the new coaching staff has been tasked to find something that works within the organization, instead of making any moves, since the trade market is quite still and the Flyers are strapped for cap space at the moment. One of those moves has been to sit defenseman Andrej Meszaros, who was a healthy scratch on Saturday night for the club, as they took on the Islanders on Long Island. The result was favourable for Philadelphia, which might not mean good things for Meszaros, unless the injury bug bites.
Meszaros is one of three donuts on Wes M.'s team this season and with the situation in Philadelphia being so sketchy, he may remain as one of those donuts for a while yet. I would wonder if Meszaros' name has popped up in trade talks in Philadelphia, possibly opening the door for him to get some ice-time elsewhere.
The St. Louis Blues suffered a couple of injuries on Saturday night against the Nashville Predators, in their 6-1 win, but only one of them had any bearing in the pool. Forward Chris Stewart left the game with an upper-body injury and was unable to play in the 3rd period. There was no real update on his status after the game and since the Blues do not play again until Tuesday, we may not get anything substantial until then. For now, he will be listed as out day-to-day with his upper-body injury and will be until the team says otherwise.
Stewart has only been able to register 2 assists so far in the season, which hasn't been a great help to Mike S. to start the year. Mike is hoping for a speedy return, as he has dropped down to 20th place, which is now turning into a heated battle once again in the basement.
The Toronto Maple Leafs announced, just before game time against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night, that forward Tyler Bozak would not dress for the team in the huge Eastern Conference match-up. Bozak was said to be dealing with a lower-body injury and was deemed unfit to play. After the game, the Leafs announced that Bozak will likely miss the next week to 10 days with the injury. There was no word at the time, as to whether or not Bozak would go on the Injured Reserve to open up a spot for an AHL call-up.
A week to 10 days is a little bit of a hitch for the new leader in the draft standings, Brenda. Bozak has been okay on her team this year, picking up only 3 goals and 3 assists in his first 11 games this year. Brenda only has a 1-point lead, going into Sunday's action, with a fair amount of games to be played today.
