The Carolina Hurricanes were already without their chosen back-up out of training camp, but on Thursday night, their chosen starter suffered an injury and it sounds like it will keep him out for quite some time.
Cam Ward left Thursday night's game against the Minnesota Wild in the 1st period, not to return, with a lower-body injury. It was later determined by the team's medical staff that the injury is set to keep the starting goalie out of the line-up for 3-to-4 weeks.
Ward is not off to the best start in Carolina, having only 2 wins and 1 assist in eight appearances. That's good for 5 points, but only good for 0.75 points in every 60 minutes played. Ward finishes Thursday night in 224th in pool scoring.
Ward belongs to Benson in the draft this year, who finished the night in 12th place in the standings. Benson is only 4 points out of the top 10, but is having a pretty rough week, having only 6 points in Week Four, all of his points on Thursday night. This is going to be a tough pill to swallow for Benson, as his goaltending is already suspect, as he's 19th in the pool with only 9 points from the crease.
