There is one thing the Anaheim Ducks are not going to do this season and that is ride Teemu Selanne into the ground. By the sound of things, the Ducks will not play Selanne in back-to-back nights, giving him a night off in the process. Last night, the Ducks were in Minnesota, taking on the Wild, and the Ducks gave their seasoned veteran the night off, as they will be in Winnipeg tonight, visiting the Jets. The Jets have a good number of back-to-back nights, like most teams, so it will be a given, that Selanne gets one of those nights off.
Selanne didn't register a point in the Ducks' opening game earlier in the week and sat out on Saturday night, so Chris M. has yet to pick up a point from the Finnish Flash this season. I'm sure he's hoping that his return to some old stomping grounds will liven up his season, early on. Chris goes into Sunday in 13th place, 9 points out of 1st place.
The Chicago Blackhawks may have some early season defensive concerns, giving up four goals in a win to the Capitals, giving up a 2-0 lead to lose in the shootout to the Lightning, 3-2, and some of those concerns were addressed going into that second game, as Michal Rozsival was made into a healthy scratch and watched the loss from the press box on Saturday.
Rozsival had an assist in opening night, so it would be my guess that the defensive play would be the leading reason to move the veteran defenseman up to the press box. Either way, Ryan V. isn't too happy about the move, giving up a skater game in the process. Ryan has 19 points, sitting in 9th place, going into Sunday's action, where he has three games to be played.
