It appears that Jimmy Howard has moved from the back-up role to the press box, as he is nursing a bruised hand, which he suffered in the pre-game warm-up of the Red Wings game against the Bruins on Monday. The Wings called up Petr Mrazek to back-up Jonas Gustavsson, as Howard mends the injury, which should be on a day-to-day basis.
That's a tough loss for Ryan V., who has now missed out on a couple of scheduled starts for his number one goalie. Ryan finished Tuesday night in 9th place, 13 points out of 1st place.
Max Pacioretty was just about to come off the news page today, but a lower-body injury will keep him on for the time being. Pacioretty left Tuesday night's game against the Jets after falling awkwardly in to the net. He was unable to put any weight on the injury, as he was helped off the ice and will be re-evaluated on Wednesday.
Wes was off to a good start in Week One, finishing the week in 3rd place, but he has since seen his team drop off a little, now sitting at 19th through Tuesday night's action. Missing out on Pacioretty will be a tough blow to his team.
Scary moment in the Blues & Sharks game, as St. Louis forward Max Lapierre rubbed out Dan Boyle, who was falling awkwardly along the boards, which caused Boyle's chin to hit the dasher board and knock him unconscious. Boyle left the ice on a stretcher and stayed the night in a St. Louis hospital, but we're now awaiting word as to what kind of condition he'll be in. It does sound like a concussion, but when official word drops, he'll get a full post.
This one belongs to the other Ryan in the pool, Ryan M.. Miller is currently tied with Vincent for points with 51, but is ahead on goals at the moment. This is likely a longer-term injury than Howard's above, which won't bode well for Miller's team.
Some injury concerns in Tampa Bay, as the Lightning captain, Martin St. Louis, was not on the ice on Wednesday morning for practice, reportedly nursing a lower-body injury. St. Louis played in Tuesday night's game against the Kings and picked up some valuable points. There is no update suggesting that he'll miss any games, but we'll keep it posted here if he is.
More bad news for Miller, as he has already lost Boyle in this post. If he has lost St. Louis for any given amount of time, that may sink his team.
The Toronto Maple Leafs were without forward James Van Riemsdyk on Tuesday night for their game against the Minnesota Wild. Van Riemsdyk reportedly suffered the injury outside of a game, which is leading to all kinds of speculation by the media. When there is more official news on the matter, that will be posted here on the blog.
Brenda currently sits with Van Riemsdyk and she currently sits in 3rd place, only 6 points out of 1st. It doesn't sound like the injury is too serious, but we'll have to wait and see what the Maple Leafs are saying ahead of their next game.
