Lehner Hits the IR
In yesterday's morning notes, the Buffalo Sabres were awfully hopeful that Robin Lehner's lower-body injury was going to be minor, but on Saturday morning, they had more than enough evidence to place their new number one goalie on the Injured Reserve. Even without the results of Lehner's MRI, which was scheduled for Saturday morning, they made the move to get their house in order, getting ready for Saturday night's home game against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
There is no expectation of how long the big Swedish netminder will be out for quite yet, but at this point, the Sabres know that he'll be out for at least a week and there is a fine chance that he could be out for significantly longer than that.
Lehner left Thursday night's game against his former team, the Senators, with the lower-body injury, 27 minutes into the game and failed to register a decision one way or another.
Well, this is pretty bad news for Stacey C. and we still don't know the extent of his injury quite yet, but it does cement the fact that Stacey won't be participating in the goalie survivor pool this year, as Lehner was his only opportunity to jump in during Week One.
Stacey's team isn't in terrible shape without much goaltending, but if you look at the top of the table, heading into Saturday night, the top team in the pool has already had 2 shutouts from their goaltending and we're only three nights into the season. It's going to be an uphill battle for Stacey's team, hopefully Lehner isn't out for too long.
