Markstrom Out With Hamstring Injury
The injury bug has bitten Jacob Markstrom of the Vancouver Canucks, as he suffered a lower-body injury, the day before the Canucks opened up their season in Calgary against the Flames. Markstrom was unable to dress as the back-up to Ryan Miller on Wednesday night and on Thursday, it was reported that Markstrom suffered a hamstring injury.
The team has said that they will re-evaluate their number two goalie in about a week's time, but the expectation for many is that Markstrom will miss at least three weeks with the injury.
Expectations were quite high for Markstrom this year, as his development in the AHL really hit a peak in the Canucks organization, so much so, the Canucks were able to move Eddie Lack to Carolina in the off-season. In some cases, there was some speculation that his 2016 season could be one that could unseat Miller as the team's number one, but with this injury, it isn't likely to happen any time soon.
Markstrom belongs to Wes in the pool this year, taken with the 240th overall pick, down in the 9th round. At the start of night number two of this NHL season, Wes had yet to get off the mark, sitting with 0 points to start the day.
