Just how deep did this draft go? Well, here's a little perspective... Brooks Orpik was taken in it. Orpik was not projected to be a pool-worthy defenseman over the Summer, so his injury status or should I say, his off-season wrist surgery was not reported upon during the Summer, so if it was kind of lost, that's why.
Orpik has yet to take part in much action for the Capitals, not playing in any preseason games and as opening day rosters were announced, Orpik was on the Injured Reserve list, retroactive to the beginning of the Fall. He is eligible to come off whenever he's ready to go, but we're just not sure when that is going to be.
Cindy's team is not off to a great start this season, already without Pavel Datsyuk until November, Ben Scrivens in the minors to start the year and piling on with Orpik's injury status, it's not great. Her team might be one of the front runners for a mini-game by Week Nine.
The Buffalo Sabres announced on Wednesday morning that their captain, Brian Gionta, had developed a minor lower-body injury at practice on Tuesday, so he'll be resting a bit more, leading up to their official start to the season, Thursday night, home to Ottawa. There wasn't much more to the update, except that he's day-to-day for the time being.
If Gionta is to miss a game, that will be a man-game lost for Benson, who is already without one of his defenders, as he also drafted Red Wings blueliner Dan DeKeyser, who was injured before the draft started.
