Nugent-Hopkins Heads to the IR

A bruised sternum landed Ryan Nugent-Hopkins on the Injured Reserve on Thursday afternoon, just as the Oilers are coming off their bye week.  The injury is not thought to be that bad, suffered last weekend against the Vegas Golden Knights, but he must not be feeling well enough to go against Vancouver on Saturday night.  He will be eligible to come off on Saturday, if he can go, but his placement opened up a roster spot, just in case.

After Thursday night's action, Nugent-Hopkins now ranks 101st in the hockey pool scoring race, with 16 goals and 31 points in 46 games, which would leave a decent hole in the Oilers lineup, if he can't go on Saturday night.

Stacey C.'s team was one of those teams that was suffering through this week, with the last of the bye weeks happening, including to his beloved Oilers.  His team is currently amidst the race for the Basement Dweller nod, having only 5 points through Thursday night, but things might pick up a little bit more, as his team still has 17 projected games left this week, including Nugent-Hopkins and his doubtful appearance.

Afternoon update: The Oilers later announced that further testing showed that Nugent-Hopkins is dealing with cracked ribs and they anticipate him to be out for 5-to-6 weeks.
