Recent Contract Extensions (Jan 4)

Well, I suppose if you haven't bought into the Jonathan Marchessault hype machine, you've probably missed out.  The 2017 season in Florida was his coming out party, picking up 30 goals and 51 points in 75 games last year and just to prove it wasn't a blip on the screen, the 27-year old has already posted 15 goals and 37 points in 35 games for the expansion Golden Knights, ranking him 34th in pool scoring, as we near the halfway point of the regular season.

On Wednesday, the Golden Knights signed the forward to a new 6-year contract extension, worth $30 million, working out to a $5 million per season cap hit.  A well-earned raise from his current $750,000 cap hit, as he was approaching unrestricted free agency this summer.  As of January 1st, all players on the final year of their current deal could start negotiating extensions and Marchessault was the first player to get his done.
