USA Olympic Roster Announced

During the Winter Classic on Monday, the USA Hockey program announced that they had released the roster for the 2018 Olympics, which will be played in South Korea next month.

The American team will feature 15 players that have had at least some NHL experience and a few players that have been drafted by NHL teams, but are still playing in the NCAA, so they haven't had any experience yet.

The most notable players for this American team include Brian Gionta, who will captain the team, James Wisniewski on the blueline, Mark Arcobello and Matt Gilroy, both who have had some reasonable amounts of experience as well.

Curiously, the Americans only have one goalie on their current roster, obviously with additions still to be made, but 31-year old Ryan Zapolski, never drafted, but currently playing in the KHL for Jokerit Helsinki.  It will be interesting to see who else they might be able to find ahead of the tournament, something we'll definitely be keeping an eye on.

Probably the most interesting NCAA player on this roster is Jordan Greenway, who we had most recently seen in the World Junior tournament for the USA, and the 2015 2nd round pick for the Wild could be relied upon as one of the more offensive options on the team.
