Potential rookie of the year candidate Logan Couture left Saturday night's game against the Blues with a lower-body injury after falling awkwardly into the boards. Couture had to be helped off the ice by teammates and didn't return to the game, but he has been tweeting that he has been feeling better, but not revealing what the nature of the injury. Until the team can confirm any bit of news towards the injury, we'll consider him day-to-day with a lower-body injury.
Through one game on Sunday, Couture currently ranks 95th in pool scoring this season, scoring 27 goals and 21 assists in 70 games for the Sharks. A top 100 finish would be a very good finish for the rookie, who only trails rookie leader, Jeff Skinner, by 4 points with 10 games left for either player. It took a while for Couture to make the jump, but he is proving himself worthy on this year's Sharks team, while not playing with Joe Thornton.
Couture has been a valuable member of Clayton C.'s draft team since the first waiver draft this season, where he was picked up early in the 2nd round. Since being picked up, Couture has registered 32 points in 45 games, which has helped Clayton get out of the basement of the standings. An injury to him may see a halt in the team's ascension.
Looking forward to the playoff pool, Couture is included on the sheet, moving up to Box 6, as a firm part of the Sharks offense. Hopefully he'll be back in time to make a difference in the playoff pool.
