The Carolina Hurricanes are expecting to be without Joni Pitkanen tonight against the Lightning, as he has contracted a bit of food poisoning in the last 24 hours. I would have to imagine that he'll only sit out one game with the ailment and will be okay for the team's next game. The Hurricanes will replace him with Jamie McBain, who is returning from a shoulder injury. McBain was expected to be out of the line-up for a month, but instead only missed a couple of weeks of action. Great news for the Canes!
The Ducks are going to start Ray Emery in the net against the Chicago Blackhawks, with Dan Ellis backing him up tonight. This means that Jonas Hiller will be in the press box as a healthy scratch, as he may not be ready for the grind of the playoff run, coming off of his stint on the IR with vertigo. Hiller will be monitored on a day-to-day basis, likely determining his starts in the same fashion.
Sounds like a bout of the flu will keep Michal Neuvirth out of the Capitals net on Saturday night, as they take on the Canadiens. Braden Holtby has been called up and will likely back up Semyon Varlamov in the game. This will likely afford Varlamov some extra ice time, trying to get back into the driver's seat for the playoff run, but he does have an awfully long way to go before he gets that spot back.
