A leg injury of unknown severity was the reason why Stephen Weiss was kept out of the Panthers line-up on Tuesday night against the Rangers. Details are very sketchy, but with only nine games left in their season and sitting in 14th place in the Eastern Conference, there really is no need to disclose all of the news, nor is there a big rush to get him back into the line-up. It would be good to play spoiler for some of those bubble teams, but the Panthers are not likely to risk the health of some players to do it. For now, we'll consider Weiss day-to-day, until otherwise noted.
Also taking the night off due to injury, Scott Clemmensen, the team's back-up goalie, was out with a minor knee problem. Again, not much for details were disclosed, but the team did call up Tyler Plante to back up Tomas Vokoun on Tuesday night. Clemmensen will also be noted as day-to-day for now.
The rough year on the Panthers has trickled down into the numbers of some of their players, as Weiss is off his usual pace of 60+ points in a season, scoring only 21 goals and 28 assists in 71 games, with no word of how much more time he'll miss. Weiss currently sits in 90th spot in pool rankings and has plenty of room to drop as of today.
Clemmensen has only 8 wins, 1 shutout and 1 assist this season, scoring 19 points in back-up action this season, just slightly lower than the 20 points he picked up in his first season with the Panthers in 2010.
Only one player here is in the draft and it doesn't look like either player will be on a team in the playoffs, so this will be fairly short. Weiss also belongs to Dale C., who still continues to battle to not be in last place before the end of the season. Currently, he does sit in 20th, but is only 1 point behind his nemesis, Derek W.. The injuries are not going to help his cause.
