The Senators will not have back-up goalie Curtis McElhinney available to them tonight, as he has been given the night off for personal reasons. The team has called up Mike Brodeur to fill in for him, making sure that the bench is good and warm against the Capitals in one of the early games this evening. There was no suggestion of anything too serious, so we'll assume that McElhinney will be good to return to the bench sooner, rather than later.
On a positive note, the Senators will be expecting the return of Milan Michalek to their line-up tonight, as he has been cleared by team doctors to return from a lower-body injury. Michalek has been out of the line-up for just over three weeks, but it does have that feeling of too little, too late. There was a fear that Michalek would not play again this season, but he'll get a few extra games in to help boost his own standing in the scoring race and maybe a small boost to his pool teams.
Some surprise news on Friday afternoon, the Penguins will be welcoming Mike Comrie back into their line-up tonight for their game against the Devils. Comrie underwent hip surgery back in December and is about a month ahead of schedule on his anticipated return. This probably couldn't come at a better time, as the Penguins are in a good fight for a decent playoff spot and are still getting dinged up on the roster.
