The Montreal Canadiens were not going to make much use out of forwards Nigel Dawes or Andreas Engqvist tonight against the Bruins, so they were sent back down to Hamilton of the AHL on Thursday. Dawes, the only one of the two in the sheet pool, was acquired from Atlanta earlier on this season, but I don't believe has seen any action with his new team. Neither Dawes or Engqvist feature in the playoff pool at all.
The New York Rangers will welcome Marc Staal back to their line-up on Thursday night, as they go out and play the Ottawa Senators tonight. Staal has missed the last couple of games with an undisclosed injury. The Rangers have kept the injury a pretty good secret and now most teams have no idea where to hurt Staal going into tonight's game. On the way out of the line-up will be Matt Gilroy, he'll be joining Sean Avery in the press box as a healthy scratch again this season. Gilroy has lost the battle for the extra defenseman to Steve Eminger at the moment, while Avery has been in the doghouse for a while now.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will have Brad Thiessen backing up Marc-Andre Fleury against the Flyers, as Brent Johnson will be out of the line-up with a minor upper-body injury. The recall was made on Thursday afternoon, which should give the team time to get Thiessen to the rink. Johnson wasn't scheduled to start at all, so this news is fairly minor. However, the Penguins are expecting to have Brooks Orpik back in their line-up soon, not tonight, but soon, after getting clearance from team doctors for a return from a broken hand. He has been upgraded to day-to-day.
