On Wednesday afternoon, the Florida Panthers announced that they had re-signed forward Jonathan Huberdeau to a new 6-year contract extension, reportedly worth $35.4 million in total, a $5.9 million cap hit per season. The 23-year old was scheduled to become a restricted free agent after this coming season, but after July 1st, they were able to negotiate an extension with the young pivot.
In the 2016 season, Huberdeau finished 46th among all forwards in scoring with 59 points in 76 games and he is currently trending upwards, ready to break out even further. My current projections have him in the 65-point range, which could put him in as a 3rd round pick in this year's draft.
