The Czech Republic have opted not to take some of their remaining NHL talent to replace Tomas Hertl or Radko Gudas, rather they have gone to the KHL for a couple of players, forward Michal Birner and defenseman Tomas Kundratek.
Both players had been drafted in their NHL careers, Birner was taken by St. Louis back in 2004 after a junior career in the OHL, while Kundratek was taken in 2008 by the Rangers. The 26-year old defenseman was the only one of the two that had seen any NHL experience, having played a combined 30 games over a couple of seasons with the Capitals, but has since gone back to Europe.
