Brodeur Out Long-Term

Did someone order a worst case scenario? The Devils probably didn't order the worst case, but they ended up with a heaping portion of bad news on Tuesday, as it was revealed that Martin Brodeur will have to undergo surgery to repair a torn muscle in his arm, around his elbow, which will sideline the All-Star keeper for upwards of 4 months.

This comes as a crushing blow, not only to the Devils, who have likely not prepared any contingency plan for this news and to all the poolies who know that Brodeur, when healthy, is one of the best fantasy goalies in the league.

In the Draft, this will affect Peter, who currently sits in 10th place, 16 points behind 1st. He'll have to wait a few weeks before he can drop Brodeur from his line-up and pick up a new goalie, who will be very inferior to Brodeur. On the Sheet, there should be a huge rush to move Brodeur, effective next Monday, as we've already passed the cut-off for Week Six yesterday. All Week Seven trades need to be in before the puck drops in the first game on Monday. I expect just about everybody with Brodeur to make the move, unless teams have picked and stopped paying attention.

I would have a hard time believing that the Devils will sit idly by as they have lost their number one goalie. You can only expect the Devils management will have some sort of panic plan in place by... just about now... making phone calls to see what the availability is of some reasonably priced help. The Devils are a good team and would be better suited to have a decent number one in place, rather than platooning a couple of back-up keepers in Kevin Weekes and Scott Clemmensen. Stay tuned for this news... it'll be huge!
