The Devils announced this morning that Patrik Elias has undergone surgery in his groin to break up some scar tissue that has built up in the region. The recovery from the surgery should keep him off the ice and out of the line-up for 3-to-6 weeks. Devils management is expecting him to miss out on the Devils' season-opener on October 3rd at home to Philadelphia.
Elias enjoyed a pretty good season with Jersey last year, scoring 31 goals and 47 assists in 77 games. His 2010 season will be a little late to start, but this injury doesn't seem to be a major one. With only 2.5 weeks until the season starts for the Devils, he'll have plenty of time to come back and make a difference. You just have to be sure to discount his projections for the season by a couple weeks, if you are really in need of taking him.
