The Red Wings likely won't have one of their bright young kids in their line-up for opening night, as Darren Helm injured his shoulder after falling into the boards awkwardly in practice. The injury will likely cause him to be out of the line-up for up to four weeks. Helm was more likely to be the fourth-line centre to open the season, so his fantasy value is somewhat questionable, especially scoring-wise. His youth may also hinder his +/- and maybe even his penalty minutes.
It sounds like Justin Abdelkader is the most likely candidate for Helm's job to start the season, but it does sound like the job is Helm's job to lose once he's healthy. Don't be in too much of a hurry to drop Helm just yet, as he should only miss out on the first week of action.
