Visnovsky Sprains Ankle

There is little question that the bane of the Oilers season and it continued over the weekend as they were without their top defenseman and 2nd best scorer this season, Lubomir Visnovsky, for their game against the Sharks on Saturday night. Visnovsky suffered a sprained ankle in Thursday's game against the Flames and now the first diagnosis of the injury suggests that the Slovak defender will be out upwards of 10 days, but the Oilers coaching staff did not sound confident with that.

Visnovsky missed 32 games for the Oilers last season and has already missed a couple games before this injury this season, but still has 8 goals and 18 assists in 39 games. He has been a bright spot in what has become a very dark season for the Oilers.

However, in his last five games, Visnovsky only has 1 assist and is a combined -2.

ImplicationsWell, this is one of those injuries that the whole pool, except for 1st place Leon, was hoping for. Leon's team has been exceptionally healthy and very good from the blueline, having the best scoring defense in the pool, with 105 points so far this season. If this injury is worse than it sounds, Leon may have a hard time holding onto top spot in the defense rankings, but he still has a pretty firm grip on the top of the standings.

On the Sheet, Visnovsky is the 2nd best defenseman in Box 11 of the pool, his 26 points are one behind Stephane Robidas of the Stars. Surprisingly, neither one of those defensemen have selections this season. Will that change after this post?

105 points? How does your scoring for a defenseman break down?

Leon has four defensemen on his team and its just goals & assists... he's just managed to get some pretty good ones.
