Flyers to Miss Niittymaki

According to reports from a Philadelphia radio station, care of HockeyBuzz.com's Bill Meltzer, Flyers goalie, Antero Niittymaki, will miss the next four to six weeks of action, thanks to hip surgery.

This report comes down on the Flyers fairly hard, as the Flyers aren't terribly deep in goaltending prospects, but they would only be in to back-up Martin Biron, as he's the number one guy in Philly.  Six weeks will leave Niittymaki's return date at around October 27th, at the worst case scenario.  That would mean he would miss approximately eight games in the Flyers' regular season, which isn't too bad.  That may only equate to one start, unless Biron was to get hurt as well.  Adjust your pool numbers accordingly.

Niittymaki also suffered a small hip injury in 2006/'07, where he missed 3 games, but there is no indication that the injuries are related.
