It's looking like a bad year to be a top defenseman in the league. Nicklas Lidstrom becomes the next player to suffer an injury, but the severity of the injury is yet to be seen. Lidstrom took a shot to the face in the third period in the Wings' game against the Canadiens. He had to be stitched up and then taken for x-rays.
The fear would be a broken orbital bone, which could cause Lidstrom to miss a significant amount of time. This injury news comes on the heels of the announcement that Sergei Gonchar will be out indefinitely with a separated shoulder.
