Monday Night Rookies

After this rookie tournament, there could be a new name or two making their way to the Selection Sheet (which goes live tomorrow), as a way to infuse some young talent into the pool.  The Sheet will need some tweaking before it goes live and the more youth, the better.

The Leafs finished their rookie tournament and the name on everyone's tongue... Luke Schenn.  The team's first round draft pick this past June has turned some heads and it's all for the right reasons... the reasons the Leafs desperately need.

The Penguins finished off the same tournament with a 3-1 win over the Ottawa Senators, as the team will open up their camp with physicals today in Pittsburgh.  Dustin Jeffrey was the most notable name on the Penguins rookie squad to score in the game against Ottawa on Monday night.  Penguins fans will get to see Jeffrey participate in camp over the next week, before they head off to Europe to open the season against the very same Senators.

The Flames prospects did the business against the Canucks prospects on Monday night, winning 6-3 in Camrose.  The Flames didn't have a big stand out player scoring many points among the six goals, but top prospects Mikael Backlund, Aki Seitsonen and Greg Nemisz all scored goals in the win.

The Canucks didn't come away empty handed in their loss to the Flames... Michael Grabner was a bright spot for Vancouver, as he scored a pair of goals against the Flames and made a good name for himself in that game.  The team will likely look for the same sort of output against the Oilers on Tuesday night.

Camps for the European-bound teams are getting underway today and rookie tournaments are just about to finish up as well. In Traverse City, Michigan, there will be another four games on the schedule there, starting this afternoon.
