Terrible news in St. Louis, as Erik Johnson's second opinion has come with the worst news possible about his knee injury. Johnson will now be out of the line-up for 6-to-8 months with a torn ACL and MCL. This must be the news that they were seeking a second opinion on, as it is pretty bad.
Johnson is the organization's premier defenseman and will be missed terribly. Last season, Johnson played in 69 games, registering 5 goals and 28 assists and that was only the tip of the iceberg. Johnson put in some quality minutes for the Blues and was only going to get better from there. He was theoretically going to be the number one defenseman on the team.
The earliest Johnson could possibly return would be mid-March and that would equate to about 72 games of the Blues' season. The Blues will now have a good portion of his $3.7 million cap hit to play with, but that won't likely get the team a calibre player like Johnson.
Avoid Johnson at all costs.
