A massive blow to the Carolina Hurricanes came down as key forward, Justin Williams, has suffered a torn Achilles tendon on Wednesday, which will now keep him off the ice for 4 to 6 months.
Now that we are in the middle of September, this will put the worst case scenario for Williams out until the middle of March, which would only give him two weeks left in the season before being ready for the playoffs. This is all an approximation, of course. The injury will now reduce his pool value to zero.
The Hurricanes will now likely have $3 million opened up underneath the salary cap, thanks to the provision where players who are injured past 10 games will not count against the cap. Watch for the 'Canes to jump into the fray for another major free agent.
