It looks as though the Kyle Wellwood experiment is over in Vancouver. The centre was placed on waivers on Friday and his fate is left to the wind over the next 24 hours. If he isn't claimed, he'll likely be sent to the minors, as his conditioning has been cited to be poor or less-than-adequate. If he does make it to the minors, he'll have the chance to work himself back to 100% and could see another chance with Vancouver, but he does have the chance to be picked up by another team. Another team will have to take the same gamble that the Canucks took by signing him in the off-season after claiming him on waivers from Toronto, but it hardly seems likely now.
Wellwood was taken a couple times in the Selection Sheet pool (Box 8) and it will be interesting to see if he moves teams, rather than sent to the minors. If he does get sent down, there could very well be a mass exodus of Wellwood selections in the pool.
