The Hurricanes have announced that they have managed to sign one of their two remaining key RFAs on Thursday, as Tuomo Ruutu put pen to paper for a 3-year deal worth $11.4 million, a $3.8 million cap hit per season. This deal only leaves Anton Babchuk left on their RFA list.
Ruutu had a solid season for Carolina in 2009, scoring 26 goals and adding 28 assists in 79 games, ranking him fourth on the team in pool scoring, third among forwards. His overall ranking in the league was 108th, 80th among forwards. That's a career best for him.
This deal sees that the Hurricanes and Ruutu avoid arbitration talks, which is another good trend to see in the NHL.
