Roloson to Long Island

The Islanders have signed free agent goalie, Dwayne Roloson, to a new 2-year deal, reportedly worth $5 million in total. At a $2.5 million cap hit, the Islanders have now picked up a reasonable insurance goalie, in case Rick DiPietro is not ready to go or gets injured in the season. The Islanders will have themselves some much needed help to keep them out of the Eastern Conference basement.

In 2009 in Edmonton, Roloson had a very good year, despite the lack of playoff play in the Spring. Roloson picked up 28 wins, 1 shutout and 1 assist for 59 pool points, but his starting status is rather unknown on Long Island, so his fantasy value is somewhat in limbo, if not dropping just a little, because DiPietro should get the nod more often than not.

Roloson's contract is not a burden to the Islanders, who now have 18 players signed on at a low rate at $31.8 million.
