Sportsnet has reported that free agent defenseman, Steve Montador, has signed a deal with the Sabres for two years, worth $3.1 million. Montador is starting to really make the rounds in the NHL and he'll have at least another two seasons to wait before he heads anywhere else after signing this deal with the Sabres.In 2009, Montador had 21 points (4G, 17A) in 78 games between Anaheim and Boston and filled some holes in some needy bluelines. Now, he'll do the same in Buffalo.
| Forwards | Defense | Goaltenders |
| Derek Roy | Craig Rivet | Ryan Miller |
| Jason Pominville | Toni Lydman | Patrick Lalime |
| Thomas Vanek | Steve Montador | |
| Tim Connolly | Henrik Tallinder | |
| Paul Gaustad | Nathan Paetsch | |
| Dan Paille | ||
| Jochen Hecht | ||
| Adam Mair |
With the signing today, the Sabres have bumped up their numbers to 15 players @ $48.2 million against the cap. This should leave them enough money to fill the gaps quite well here.
